Various Learning Disability Types Teachers Need to Know

Learning disability types are various. Learning disability itself is related to neurological-based problem that potentially hinders the students during learning process. Some disability types affect to student’s capability in acquiring certain skills such as writing, reading or math. In other case, it may interfere with student’s skills in organization, abstract reasoning, time planning and attention. Being a teacher requires you to know the problems of every student, particularly ones that may affect to their learning process. Since disabilities can bring negative effect to their academic and school life, it is better to know some types of learning disabilities your students possibly suffer from.

Auditory Processing Disorder (ADP) places the first rank on learning disability list. This disorder is a condition where your students cannot differentiate certain sounds in words even if the sound is pretty clear and loud. This disability relates to the capability of the brain to interpret every sound that comes unimpeded through their ears. Students with this disability are difficult to find where the sound is coming from. Another learning disability is Dysalculia. This disorder hinders the students to understand numbers, which majorly affect their capability in learning math. They are hard to understand math symbols, and memorize numbers. Problems in counting also become an effect of this disorder.

If you find a child that is so hard to write, he probably suffers from dysgraphia. This learning disorder affects one’s capability in handwriting and fine motor skills. Children with dysgraphia commonly find it difficult to write, make consistent spacing and paper planning. Don’t be so surprised to read their illegible handwriting, poor paper spatial planning and inconsistent spacing. Last but not least, dyslexia is another learning disability with thousands of sufferers worldwide. It relates to the disability in reading and language skills. The sufferers find it hard to read, decode, write and spell. Not only children, dyslexia also becomes one of learning disability types adults.
